Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to tackle the economic challenges faced by Nigerians in 2024.
In his New Year message released on Sunday, Atiku expressed gratitude to God and highlighted the difficulties experienced by Nigerians in 2023.
He identified the rising costs of food, goods, and services, as well as concerns about the national economy and security.
Atiku criticised the government’s “Policy prescriptions,” stating, “Certainly, many families and businesses already know the intensity of the trying times that we are currently going through – though we could have taken a completely different pathway, had the government been smarter.”
Calling for a well-thought-out national plan, he emphasized the need to prioritize the common people in Nigeria for development.
Quest Times further reports that he urged the government to take decisive action in the new year to address the acute hardships faced by Nigerians.
“There is ample time for the current government to champion a pathway to addressing the acute hardship that Nigerians are going through,” Atiku stated, emphasizing the importance of clear policy directions and avoiding uncertain decision-making.
As the canvas of 2024 unfolds, Atiku also encouraged the government to adopt a vision that places the welfare of ordinary Nigerians at the centre of development efforts.
He therefore called for a departure from the current approach, while urging the government to provide a clear and focused direction for its policy initiatives.
