In a heartbreaking turn of events, the demise of 32-year-old Amarachi Ugochukwu, an employee at a bank in Ikorodu, has prompted a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
As gathered by Quest Times, Amarachi was discovered lifeless in the bank’s restroom on Monday, where she had consumed an insecticide unbeknownst to her colleagues.
The grim discovery was made when her abandoned phone rang incessantly, leading her coworkers to search for her.
A police source revealed that Amarachi was found with a bottle of insecticide and a suicide note.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, initially confirmed the incident and later disclosed that the case had been forwarded to the homicide section at the SCID.
As the news unfolded, friends of the deceased expressed their shock on social media platforms.
Becky, a former roommate, shared her sorrow on X, stating, “Finding out that the banker who committed suicide was one of my roommates back in Hall 2, University of Benin, just made the whole thing sadder and closer to home. Amarachi was so calm and loved going to church a lot back then.”
Similarly, Folusho Adebisi, a Facebook user, remembered Amarachi as a friendly and hardworking lady.
He wrote, “Amarachi was a young lady, friendly, amiable, and hardworking, a lady cobbler that combined her stressful job of a banker with another stressful business of shoemaking and marketing. I read she left a suicide note complaining of a hard life, hard economy, etc.”
