The authorities of the Nigerian Army, on Friday, announced the release of Prince Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe, the monarch previously declared wanted in connection to the tragic killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu stated that while no one has been cleared of involvement in the incident, the decision to release the monarch followed interventions by prominent individuals in the society and a thorough review process.
Initial reports detailed how the military had launched an extensive manhunt for those believed to be responsible for the attack, prompting residents of Okuama to flee the area.
The individuals initially declared wanted included Professor Arthur Ekpekpo, Andaowei Dennis Bakriri, Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono (also known as Amagbem), and Akata Malawa David. Additionally, Sinclear Oliki, Reuben Baru, and Igoli Ebi, the only female among the suspects, were also listed.
Upon surrendering himself to the police, who subsequently transferred him to the Army, the monarch was handed over to Senator representing Delta Central at the Army headquarters.
Nwachukwu highlighted the Senator’s testimony to the monarch’s respectable character during the handover process.
