The Kenya Police Service has captured Nadeem Anjarwalla, a high-ranking official at Binance, after he attempted to escape from custody in Nigeria.
International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) is expediting his extradition process to Nigeria, scheduled for completion within the week.
Anjarwalla’s presence in Kenya was uncovered after he managed to dodge Nigerian authorities. Collaborative efforts between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), INTERPOL, Nigeria Police Force, and Kenya Police Service have escalated to ensure Anjarwalla’s swift return to Nigeria to confront the accusations against him.
Confirming the developments, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede stated in the March edition of the EFCC bulletin titled “EFCC Alert” that the commission, in tandem with global counterparts such as the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, is expediting Anjarwalla’s extradition process.
The charges leveled against Anjarwalla and his cohorts, including Tigran Gambaryan, entail allegations of tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering totaling $35,400,000.
While Gambaryan is already in custody, efforts to extradite Anjarwalla are in progress, with the collaboration of multiple international law enforcement agencies.
This concerted endeavor aims to ensure Anjarwalla’s accountability for purported financial crimes, showcasing the EFCC’s resolve to tackle disruptions in the country’s forex market.
