Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Ondo State.
The news came after a rigorous electoral process overseen by the Chairman of the election committee and Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
Governor Ododo, speaking from Akure, officially announced the outcome of the exercise following the collation of results from 17 out of the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa secured a resounding victory with 48,569 votes, defeating 15 other aspirants who vied for the coveted position. The primary election, which witnessed stiff competition, was concluded on Sunday after initially being declared inconclusive on Saturday.
Former deputy speaker in the state, Mayowa Akinfolarin, clinched the second position with 15,343 votes, while Chief Olusola Oke secured the third spot with 14,865 votes.
Aiyedatiwa’s dominance was evident as he emerged victorious in 16 out of the 18 LGAs in the state, with Oke claiming victory in the Ilaje local government area.
However, the election faced challenges in Ifedore LGA, where it was cancelled due to violence concerns, highlighting the need for peaceful conduct during electoral processes.
The primary election, held across 203 wards in the 18 LGAs of the state, showcased the democratic process in action. Governor Ododo, addressing the party’s electoral officers, emphasized the importance of unity within the APC.
He urged all aspirants to demonstrate loyalty to the party and throw their support behind Aiyedatiwa, emphasizing the collective goal of securing victory in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November this year.
