Ismaila Yushau Maihanchi, the National Assembly member-elect for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing constituency in Taraba State, is dead.
He died in the early hours of Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to Daily Post.
The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Andeta’rang Irammae, who confirmed the death, said: “Shortly after the election, the member-elect fell sick and has been receiving medical treatment in Abuja.”
He described his death as a rude shock to his party, noting that the deceased will be missed, not only by the party but by the people of the state at large.
The Acting Chairman of the party, Abubakar Bawa, also described the death as a big blow to the PDP family in the state and the country at large.
A family source who spoke with the media organisation, confirmed that the late member-elect took ill shortly after he was declared winner of the just concluded election, while asserting that funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Ismaila Yushau Maihanchi contested the National Assembly election on the platform of the PDP, and defeated his opponents from the All Progressives Congress (APC) the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) by a landslide.
