Afrobeats superstar David Adedeji Adeleke known popularly as Davido, has countered a N2.3 billion breach of contract suit brought against him by Brownhill Investments Company Limited and its Chairman, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, a former President of the Nigerian Football Federation.
As recalled by QUEST TIMES, Pinnick alleged that Davido failed to honour a contract to perform at the “Warri Again” event on October 6, 2023, despite receiving $94,500.
Davido disputed the claim, asserting that the payment was solely for promoting the show.
At the recent court hearing, Davido challenged the court’s jurisdiction, arguing that the matter was simply a debt recovery issue and should have been addressed with a letter of demand before legal action.
Meanwhile, a separate defamation case against Davido’s staff, Israel, has resulted in an injunction against further defamatory statements.
Besides, legal proceedings have been adjourned until December 14, 2023, as the court considers preliminary objections in both cases.
Notably, there have been efforts, including influential mediators, attempting to facilitate an out-of-court settlement between Davido and Pinnick.
Despite these developments, Pinnick has remained steadfast, expressing concerns over the perceived damage to his reputation, considering his esteemed career in football administration and current role with FIFA.
There are also reports suggesting potential legal action in the United States against Davido and his associates since he (Davido) is an American.
