In response to the recent demolition activities in Lagos, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio-cultural organization, has advised Igbos to relocate their investments to the East. This counsel comes as a call for self-reliance over the impact of demolitions on properties owned by Igbo residents.
The organization’s Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, conveyed this directive, emphasizing the importance of learning from past warnings, particularly those of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledged a perception that Igbos are facing challenges in Lagos, stressing the need for reflection and proactive measures to secure their future.
Highlighting intelligence reports, Ohanaeze Ndigbo pointed out that Ojukwu had foreseen the loss of investments to the Lagos government.
While refraining from confrontation with Governor Sanwu Olu and the Lagos government, Ohanaeze Ndigbo encourages Igbos to view this situation as an opportunity for correction. The organization urges Igbos in Lagos to consider relocating their investments promptly, offering support and facilitation for a smooth transition to safeguard their assets and prosperity.
The statement read in part;
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo encourages Igbos to seize this moment as an opportunity to reassess their investments and consider relocating them to the Eastern region.
“Our vibrant cities, such as Aba, Abakiliki, and Onitsha, offer immense potential for growth and development. By investing and building international markets in these areas, we can create prosperous economic hubs that will benefit not only the Igbo people but also contribute to the overall development of Nigeria.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on all Igbo residents in Lagos to come together and support one another during this challenging period. Together, we can navigate through these difficulties and forge a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.”
