The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported that a total of 36 officers lost their lives in the recent ambush by bandits that occurred in Niger State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, released this information during a comprehensive briefing on the casualties sustained during the ambush of troops and the subsequent helicopter crash on August 14, 2023.
The detailed breakdown of casualties was presented during the biweekly Defence Media Operations briefing. Responding to inquiries regarding the helicopter crash’s cause, Major General Edward Buba reiterated that an ongoing investigation is actively pursuing the root cause of the accident. He also cautioned citizens to be vigilant against terrorist propaganda and uphold their patriotic commitment.

In the series of unfortunate events, insurgents ambushed troops in the Zungeru area of Niger State, leading to the loss of gallant soldiers from the Nigerian Army who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Simultaneously, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, deployed on a mission for casualty evacuation, tragically crashed in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Monday.
The DHQ’s disclosure of the casualties serves as a solemn reminder of the risks and sacrifices faced by the Nigerian military in their continuous efforts to ensure peace and security within the nation.
