A blazing fire has wreaked havoc at Aasco Petrol Station, near the Nigeria Airforce office along Ajase-Ipo road, Ilorin, on a Saturday evening, leaving two vehicles, a truck, and a bus, charred and in ruins.
Quest Times gathered that prompt action by the state fire service prevented further destruction, as they swiftly tackled the flames, stemming the fire’s advance.
The inferno, ignited by a spark from a Toyota Dyna truck parked at the station, caused significant damage to the filling station.
Hassan Adekunle, the head of media and publicity for the state fire service, while speaking with journalists, praised the firefighters for their quick response and effective firefighting techniques.
He explained, “Despite the scale of the disaster, the firemen demonstrated their expertise and skill, successfully controlling and extinguishing the fire with their knowledge and prowess in firefighting techniques.”
Moreso, an investigation into the incident revealed that the spark from the Dyna truck, with Registration number LEM115XB, triggered the ignition of the flammable liquid, leading to the outbreak of the fire thus, the unfortunate event resulted in substantial damage to the Dyna truck and a bus.
Fortunately, the coordinated response of the firemen, supported by relevant authorities, curtailed the fire, preventing further harm to the facility and surrounding areas.
Adekunle also reported that the total property lost was estimated at N12.8 million, while the estimated property saved in the incident was N68.3 million.
