A fire incident disrupted the plans of Household of David Church in Lagos, as flames engulfed the auditorium in the Ikeja Local Government Area.
According to Amodu Shakiri, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, the fire originated from an overheated ceiling, leading to its collapse and subsequent ignition.
Emergency services, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), swiftly responded to the incident, managing the damage caused by the flames. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during the ordeal.
NEMA issued a statement, revealing that the fire was detected by passersby at the back of the church, prompting a timely alert to the occupants.
The agency confirmed that the fire, successfully extinguished, began around 00:11 hours on Surulere Industrial Road, off Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja.
The statement further disclosed that “The church, leased and insured, had organized a 5-day crusade starting this evening and ending on February 4, 2024.
“Due to the expected congregant turnout, church workers underwent training by the Fire Service.”
Various response agencies, including NEMA, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service, and the Police, collaborated to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
