Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has returned to Carrington after a demanding 17-day period filled with highs and lows. The Cameroonian international faced scrutiny during his season with the club, keeping only nine clean sheets in 31 games and making notable errors, especially in the Champions League against Galatasaray.
Despite coming out of international retirement in September, Onana’s relationship with Cameroon football federation president Samuel Eto’o remains strained due to his expulsion from the World Cup camp in November 2022. His AFCON journey added further drama, with foggy conditions forcing a diversion to Abidjan before reaching Cameroon’s Group C campaign.
Onana’s AFCON experience included a notable snub by coach Rigobert Song and a forgettable clash against Senegal where three goals were conceded. Subsequently dropped for a thrilling match against Gambia, Fabrice Ondoa replaced him. The last-16 clash against Nigeria ended in disappointment, marking the exit of Cameroon, the five-time winners.
Returning with over 6,000 air miles and just one AFCON appearance, Onana is set to train with the first team ahead of Wolves clash.
However, his return hasn’t been something of a good news to Manchester United fans, as they don’t seem excited about his return.
See some of their reactions below;
SK100 said; He should be allowed to rest for at least 2 weeks. Because we all remember when players return from tournaments, they’re given 2 weeks to rest and I hope this rule will not change just because Onana is 10 Hag’s darling boy.
Jamesyuan: That’s not good for the second goalkeeper who was unlucky the other night, but I the United defence played well knowing that they had a keeper at the back. But Now Onana is back, to your tent oh Israel.
Peaceiorsy: I suspect onana and eth are doing 50/50 sharing formula in onanas wages if not, why upon all the lost he has cost us he’s still a prefer goalkeeper by this stupid coach.
Pemacdleph: Oh Lawd. Can’t Cameroon just qualify for knockout through the back door like Ivory Coast?
Vimaberty: Wolves now fancy their chances of beating Man Utd since Onana is back as Man Utd first choice goalkeeper
