Ghali Na’Abba, the 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives, has passed away at the age of 64 in Abuja.
The former Speaker, born on September 27, 1958, battled a prolonged illness, ultimately succumbing on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by family sources.
Na’Abba had faced health challenges for an extended period, which previously led to his overseas medical treatment. After spending several months abroad, he recovered and returned to Nigeria.
However, despite these efforts, the veteran politician could not overcome his health struggles.
Quest Times further reports that the family sources have revealed that the late Na’Abba will be laid to rest in Abuja today, adhering to Islamic funeral rites.
A notable figure in Nigerian politics, Ghali Na’Abba joined the Peoples Democratic Party and successfully clinched the party’s candidacy for the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency during the April 1999 general elections.
Following a political crisis that saw the exit of the first Speaker of the Fourth Republic, Salisu Buhari, Na’Abba emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Educated at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he majored in political science and graduated in 1979, Na’Abba leaves behind a legacy marked by his contributions to the nation’s political landscape.
