Nollywood actress and politician, Funke Akindele, has praised Mrs. Bina Jennifer Efidi, who was hailed as Nigeria’s election hero for returning to vote after being stabbed by thugs at her polling unit.
Akindele, who is running for the position of Deputy Governor of Lagos State under PDP, disclosed that her principal, Jandor, visited the injured woman and that Efidi’s bravery is a source of inspiration to her.
In her words, “It is so sad to see the violence and intimidation that has ravaged the process of choosing our next president at the just concluded presidential elections. Mrs. Bina Jennifer Efidi was a victim of the usual election thuggery that has plagued us for over 2 decades.
“She’s truly a hero, and her bravery is one to be saluted. Your bravery is undoubtedly a source of inspiration for me.”
Akindele also expressed gratitude to Jandor for visiting Mrs. Bina Jennifer Efidi, describing it as a gesture of true leadership.
The unfortunate incident occurred at a polling unit in the Surulere area of Lagos State during the Presidential and National Assembly polls, where thugs stormed the location and destroyed election materials, hitting people who tried to confront them, including the brave woman who sustained a head injury.
Despite her injuries, Mrs. Efidi returned to her polling unit after receiving treatment to cast her vote, an act that brought her fame and fortune, as some well-to-do Nigerians have started donating massively for her upkeep.
