The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has come forward to address what he perceives as a smear campaign against him, asserting that he will not allow his reputation to be tarnished unjustly.
Adams expressed his readiness to address the allegations stemming from an audio clip, emphasizing that the content was manipulated and misrepresented. He stated, “I will set the record straight on the various questions hanging in the balance on the alleged defamation contained in the clips which he said was ‘concocted, distorted, and disjointed.'”
The controversy arose after reports surfaced that Sunday Igboho and Tayo Ayinde intended to take legal action against Adams for implicating them in an alleged assassination plot. In a pre-action letter, Ayinde’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, highlighted a viral note purportedly containing Adams’ accusations.
However, Adams refuted the claims, denouncing the audio clip as distorted and the threat of lawsuits as part of a larger conspiracy against him. He affirmed his commitment to protecting his integrity and the office he holds.
Addressing the allegations against him, Adams clarified, “The reason for my silence in the midst of the various legal and media infractions by Igboho and Ayinde, was not because I am a coward, but because of the initial interventions of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, other prominent Obas and several other important personalities in Yorubaland.”
Moreover, Adams explained that the audio clip in question was from a private conversation in 2021 and should not be misconstrued as malicious intent. He stressed that the remarks made were based on unconfirmed rumors and were not intended for public dissemination.
