Popular search engine ‘Google,’ turned twenty-five on September 27, 2023. The search engine has had a huge impact on the way we live, providing us with an endless library at our fingertips. What else do we know about this great search engine apart from getting quick answers to most of the questions we have each day? Quest Times here brings you five facts about this popular search engine;
1. Original Name
The original name of Google was BackRub. Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Google, who were working on a research project called BackRub, which ranked websites based on the number of other websites that linked to them, first met at Stanford University in 1995. They changed the name of their project to Google in 1997, a play on the mathematical term “googol”, which is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.
2. Mission
Google’s mission is to “organize the world’s information, makimg it universally accessible and useful. Google’s search engine is the most popular in the world, and the company also offers a wide range of other products and services, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, and Google Docs.
3. Company
Google is one of the most valuable companies in the world. As of September 2023, its market capitalization was said to be over $1 trillion. The company’s revenue comes primarily from advertising, but it also generates income from other sources, such as the sale of cloud computing services and hardware.
4. Commitment
The company has a strong commitment to innovation as it invests heavily in research and development, constantly launching new products and features. Some of Google’s most innovative products include self-driving cars, augmented reality glasses, and artificial intelligence technologies.
5. Strength
Google is a global company with offices in over sixty countries, employing over one hundred and sixty (160,000) persons. Google’s products and services are used by billions of people around the world.
