Manchester City are coming to terms with the likelihood of Kevin De Bruyne’s absence for several months, as they deliberate on whether the star midfielder requires surgical intervention.
De Bruyne demonstrated remarkable determination to regain his fitness for the new season after enduring a hamstring injury during the Champions League final. He had played through the discomfort during the latter part of the previous season. Although the Belgian showcased his prowess with a spirited performance during the Community Shield, his return was short-lived against Burnley, as he exited the game after only 20 minutes with a recurring injury.
Initial apprehensions within the City camp have been validated by subsequent scans, confirming the severity of the situation. Pep Guardiola acknowledged the existence of alternative options, yet couldn’t conceal his disappointment over the unavailability of a player he deems “irreplaceable.”

A verdict on the necessity of surgery is forthcoming, with Dr. Ramon Cugat, City’s preferred specialist, having reviewed the injury images alongside several other medical experts, all arriving at the same consensus. Guardiola stated, “It’s a serious injury. We have to decide on surgery but he will be out for a few months.”
“We will decide in the next days. Surgery is surgery – three of four months out.
“The injury for Kevin is a blow, a big loss. He has specific qualities. For a long time is really tough for us. We have to look forward. We have alternatives. Kevin is irreplaceable, but we have talented players. They will take it.”
