Former Italy head coach, Arigo Sacchi, has expressed disappointment over Victor Osimhen’s performance during Napoli’s defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Serie A champions were knocked out of the competition after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Xavi’s side. Napoli lost the Round of 16 tie 4-2 on aggregate.
Osimhen, who scored Napoli’s only goal in the first leg, failed to make a significant impact in the reverse fixture. Despite managing just one shot on target throughout the game, the Nigerian striker struggled against Barcelona’s defense, particularly against youngster Pau Cubarsi.
In his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi expressed his surprise at the lack of involvement from Osimhen and another key player, Kvara. He noted that although they didn’t receive much service, their movement on the pitch was inadequate, making it easy for Barcelona to neutralize their threat.
“What surprised me the most was the little involvement of Kvara and Osimhen, the two most awaited players,” Sacchi wrote in his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It’s true that they didn’t get much service, but at the same time, they didn’t move much and they did it in the wrong way, so it was easy for opponents to stop them.”
