The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Governor Hope Uzodimma and the All Progressives Congress (APC) just 24 hours before the crucial Imo governorship election.
The PDP claims that Governor Uzodimma and the APC are involved in creating and spreading a fake video targeting its Imo state governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The party, through its national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, decried the video as barbaric and shameful, accusing Uzodimma of stooping to new lows to deceive the people of Imo.
The alleged fake video suggests that Governor Uzodimma fears Senator Anyanwu’s popularity and is resorting to unfair tactics to undermine his chances in the upcoming election.
Commending the courage of TVC, the network misrepresented in the fake video, the PDP emphasized the immediate disclaimer and condemnation of the fraudulent use of its name, logo, and inscription. The party reiterates that its candidate, Senator Anyanwu, remains firmly in the governorship race, urging the people of Imo state to dismiss the fake video as entirely false.
The statement partly reads;
”The PDP restates that our candidate, Senator Anyanwu is very much in the governorship race. The people of Imo should disregard the said video as it is completely FALSE.”
”If there is anybody that should withdraw from the race, it is Governor Uzodimma, who has amply demonstrated that he is not ready to contest in a peaceful free, fair and transparent election.
”The PDP calls on INEC to disqualify the APC and Governor Uzodimma as their reported involvement in producing and circulating the fake video constitute a gross violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, the Nigerian Criminal Code and Cyber Crime Law,” the statement read.
