The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has stood its ground against the security advisory issued by the Department of State Services, DSS, urging the union to cancel its planned nationwide protest.
NLC had announced plans for a mass protest on February 27 and 28 to address the rising cost of living crisis in the country.
Despite the DSS statement urging them to reconsider for the sake of peace and public order, NLC President Joe Ajaero reaffirmed the union’s commitment to proceed with the protest.
Ajaero noted that the planned protest aims to address the severe hardships faced by Nigerians due to certain government policies. He assured that the demonstration would be peaceful and called on the DSS to identify and apprehend any individuals or groups intending to disrupt the process.
“Our protest is a peaceful one against the unpardonable cost of living of which the unserviced personnel of the Service are also victims.
“We cannot fold our hands and pretend all is well. That will be a grievous conspiracy that history will not forgive”, Ajaero added.
