President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has raised concerns about potential government-led violence against NLC members amid the looming nationwide strike scheduled for Tuesday.
Ajaero stressed that the protest would proceed as planned, emphasizing that the hunger felt by the populace cannot be silenced with force.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ajaero alleged a sinister plot to disrupt the peaceful protest, cautioning that any aggression or violence directed towards demonstrators would result in a complete shutdown of operations. He urged the government to address the prevailing challenges facing the nation.
“In light of this, we advise the state to put on its thinking cap and find solutions to the pains it continues to cause the people instead of further dehumanising them.”
“However, if it is irrevocably set on the path of violence against us and other peace-loving Nigerians, it will be making a costly mistake because if we are attacked, there will be a total shutdown via withdrawal of services by workers.”
Ajaero further highlighted that the NLC had notified the African Union and the United Nations about the potential threat to the people’s right to peaceful protest against economic hardships imposed by the Nigerian government.
He concluded by asserting, “Let no one be deceived; we and other deprived Nigerians cannot easily be intimidated.”
