In a shocking incident in the Odo Alaro area of Odogbolu Local Government Area, a mob reportedly took matters into their own hands, lynching two unidentified individuals accused of murdering 12-year-old Ayomide Agunbiade for ritual purposes on Christmas Day.
As gathered by Quest Times, Agunbiade had gone missing on his birthday when his uncle, who came to celebrate with him in his mother’s absence, allegedly took him away.
A village elder, speaking anonymously, revealed that a boy who witnessed the uncle picking up Ayomide informed the search party about the suspicious incident.
Upon confronting the uncle, he initially denied any involvement, but the boy insisted that the uncle had taken Ayomide for the birthday celebration.
Further interrogation by the community members led to the shocking confession that the uncle had killed Ayomide for ritual purposes.
The village elder recounted, “When we asked the man to take us to the place the child was, he and one other guy took us to an uncompleted building where we found the body of Ayomide with his head missing.”
Moreover, the gruesome discovery enraged the crowd, leading to a swift and violent reaction; the mob lynched the accused individuals before the police arrived at the scene.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, did not respond to inquiries, but a senior police source, while confirming the incident, cited a lack of authority to comment.
