The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Feb 25 election, Peter Obi, says the audio of a conversation purportedly featuring himself and Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Winners Chapel, is fake.
The audio had gone viral last weekend. On it, a grovelling Obi repeatedly muttered “Yes Daddy” to Oyedepo’s character, with the subject of their conversation being how to garner votes through the deployment of a religious strategy.
In a post on Wednesday on his official Twitter handle, Obi said; “Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war.”
Obi also said he’s suing Peoples Gazette, the platform that first published the audio before its virality.
“The attempts to manipulate Nigerians is very sad and wicked. Our legal team has been instructed to take appropriate legal actions against Peoples Gazette and others,” Obi added.
