Angry Nigerians have called on President Bola Tinubu, demanding the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Power, Mr. Bayo Adelabu, citing inadequate electricity supply to their homes and businesses as the reason for their discontent.
Some X (formerly Twitter) users vented their frustrations on the platform, urging the Minister of Power to step down following weeks of enduring complete blackout in their neighborhoods.
A user @Gbolahan expressed his frustration in a tweet, addressing the Minister as the “Honorable Minister Of Darkness,” questioning his ability to address the ongoing crisis.
He lamented, “For the past weeks, I’ve spent my profit & part of my savings on diesel…just to keep my business running. It has never been this bad.”
Another user echoed the sentiment, questioning the Minister’s effectiveness in office, “With all due respect, what actually is the minister of power doing in the office? With all due respect sir, can U tell Nigerians what is going on?”
The discontent further intensified as Nigerians grappled with a 200% increase in electricity tariffs for some consumers amidst a dismal electricity supply of less than 5,000 megawatts. Distribution companies (DisCos) were granted permission to hike electricity prices to N225 per kilowatt-hour from N68, exacerbating the burden on already struggling citizens.
