Thursday, October 26, 2023 has been scheduled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to deliver its judgment on the appeals filed by the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.
Quest Times recalls that a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court Justices, led by Justice Inyang Okoro on October 23, 2023, reserved judgment after parties in the appeal adopted their briefs of arguments.
Atiku and Obi are therefore seeking to have the Supreme Court overturn the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which dismissed their petitions and affirmed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PEPT had ruled that Atiku and Obi failed to prove their allegations of electoral malpractices and irregularities.
However, the two candidates have argued that the PEPT’s decision was flawed and that the Supreme Court should overturn it.
