Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has assured that the Federal Government is committed to thoroughly investigating the mistaken bombing by the Nigerian Army in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He pledged that anyone found responsible for the incident will face appropriate consequences, and the victims will receive support from the Federal Government.
During his visit to the victims at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna, the Vice President reiterated the government’s determination, under President Bola Tinubu, to eradicate terrorism and banditry in the Northern region and other parts of the country.
Governor Uba Sani welcomed Shettima to Kaduna State, accompanying him to the hospital where they commiserated with the victims. The entourage included Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje.
The Vice President’s visit comes four days after a tragic airstrike that resulted in the death of over 85 individuals and injuries to several others in the North-Western state. The incident has garnered condemnation from both local and international watchdogs, prompting calls for investigations and a standardized review of procedural activities.
Taking responsibility for the accident, the Army, represented by Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, issued an apology during his visit to the community. He also assured that measures would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
