In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of a new Executive Chairman and Secretary for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A statement released by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman of the EFCC, which is subject to Senate confirmation.
Mr. Olukoyede, a seasoned lawyer with over 22 years of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in regulatory compliance, fraud management, and corporate intelligence. Notably, he has previously served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and as the Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023), providing him with extensive knowledge of the EFCC’s operations. Mr. Olukoyede’s initial term as Chairman is set at four years, with the possibility of renewal.

According to the statement, the appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.
With his vast experience and strong background in the organization, Mr. Olukoyede fulfills the statutory requirements for this significant leadership role.
In addition to Mr. Olukoyede’s appointment, President Tinubu has also appointed Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC.
Mr. Hammajoda is an accomplished public administrator with expertise in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s in Business Administration from the same institution. His career journey has been marked by success, beginning as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and progressing to the banking sector, where he served with distinction at institutions such as the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank. His initial term as Secretary spans five years, pending Senate confirmation.
President Bola Tinubu has tasked the newly appointed leadership of the EFCC with the important national assignment of intensifying the fight against corruption.
