The State Department has issued a global travel advisory due to rising tensions worldwide. They have urged United States citizens traveling abroad to be extra cautious. The department’s advisory comes in response to the heightened global tensions sparked by a recent terror attack by Hamas in Israel and the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The State Department stated in its alert, “Due to increased tensions in various parts of the world, there is a greater potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests. As a result, the Department of State advises U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution.”
Additionally, Americans abroad are advised to remain vigilant in areas popular among tourists.
A few African countries have received the highest travel alerts, discouraging all travel to Niger, Libya, South Sudan, Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.
Nigeria, on the other hand, has been placed in the third tier of caution alerts, suggesting that travelers should reconsider their plans.
The State Department has specifically highlighted the regions of Adamawa, Bauchi, Kogi, Yobe, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe, Kano, and Katsina within Nigeria.
