Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, has strongly refuted recent rumours and circulating reports that suggest there were assassination attempts on his life. These rumors had begun to emerge on various social media platforms.
The Kogi state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo had in a statement on Sunday accused individuals dressed in military fatigues of making attempts on Bello’s life.
But in a dramatic twist, Governor Bello in a recorded video categorically dismissed the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them.
He clarified that the incident in question was nothing more than a minor disagreement between his personal security team and the military personnel assigned to road protection. There was, according to the governor, no attempt on his life.
Governor Bello further explained that a brief confrontation had occurred between members of the Nigerian Police Force attached to his convoy and those from a military unit responsible for highway security. This confrontation, he stressed, was merely part of both units carrying out their respective lawful security duties.
While expressing appreciation for the joint efforts of the security agencies in enhancing the safety and security of the people of Kogi State, the Governor called upon the high command of the involved agencies to investigate any overzealous or unprofessional conduct by their personnel during the incident and take the necessary actions as warranted.
In light of the approaching 2023 governorship elections scheduled for November 11, Governor Bello urged the citizens of Kogi State not to succumb to the efforts of political opportunists seeking to exploit the incident to disrupt the political landscape.
He assured the state of both his safety and the adequacy of security measures in place to guarantee peaceful, free, and fair elections.
