Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has been released after a two-year legal battle in Benin Republic.
Igboho confirmed his freedom in a heartfelt statement posted on his Instagram handle titled “My Release in Benin Republic.” He expressed deep gratitude to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, Professor Banji Akintoye, Ayo Adebanjo, and various traditional rulers for their instrumental roles in securing his release.
Igboho, who faced arrest in 2021 following accusations of arms stockpiling by the Nigerian Department of State Service, praised the support from global Yoruba communities, religious leaders, and royal figures, emphasizing the need for continued solidarity to liberate Yoruba land from oppression.
