President Joe Biden has unveiled the inaugural members of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States, a move that highlights the crucial role of the African diaspora in U.S. foreign policy.
Among the twelve distinguished leaders appointed to this council, two prominent Nigerian-Americans have garnered attention: Chiney Ogwumike, a WNBA star and ESPN basketball analyst, and Osagie Imasogie, Senior Managing Partner of PIPV Capital.
Chiney Ogwumike
With a background in professional sports and media, Chiney Ogwumike brings a unique perspective to the council.
As the only athlete among the appointees, Ogwumike’s role is pivotal in promoting trade, investment, and educational exchanges between the U.S. and African nations.
Born to Nigerian immigrants, she embodies the spirit of cultural diversity and youth engagement. Ogwumike’s commitment to diplomacy reflects her belief in the power of representation, making her a remarkable addition to the council.
Osagie Imasogie:
A seasoned professional with over three decades of experience spanning law, finance, business management, healthcare, and the pharmaceutical industry, Osagie Imasogie is a distinguished co-founder and Senior Managing Partner of PIPV Capital.
His impressive track record includes conceptualizing and establishing GlaxoSmithKline Ventures and serving as the founding Vice President.
Imasogie’s vast expertise encompasses senior roles within pharmaceutical giants, as well as leadership positions in corporate finance and law firms.
Both Nigerians appointed to the council will play integral roles in enhancing dialogue and collaboration between the United States and Africa, with a focus on reinforcing cultural, social, political, and economic ties.
