Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has acted decisively by suspending the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Omoun Perez, along with other key officials.
This move follows a review of the Greenhouse project’s implementation by the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Wednesday in Warri, the governor ordered Perez’s immediate suspension and directed the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bennett Agamah; Assistant Director, Agricultural Engineering, Oki Yintareke; and Chief Accountant, Gabriel Idiatacheko, to go on compulsory leave until further notice, adhering to civil service rules.
Quest Times also learned that the decision stems from concerns raised during the review, prompting the governor to ensure an unbiased investigation.
To facilitate this, a seven-man committee, led by Dr. Kingsley Emu, has been established to look into claims and perceived infractions related to the Greenhouse project’s management.
“The government’s action is in no way a presumption of guilt but rather a necessary measure to uphold the sanctity of the investigative processes already instituted which is to ensure that the investigation is conducted without any potential for undue influence or bias,” the statement read in part.
The governor assured the public of his administration’s commitment to completing existing projects across the state and initiating new ones for sustainable development, as conveyed by his spokesman, Festus Ahon.
