The Osun State Police Command has announced a ban on street carnivals during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.
Quest Times gathered that the command is acting upon intelligence made available to it which suggests that miscreants, under the guise of street carnival, planned to cause mayhem.
This was made known in a press release signed by the command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, on Tuesday, urging all organisers of carnivals to hire or use gated compounds to celebrate their festivals.
The statement partly reads; “Intelligence availed the Command suggests that miscreants under the guise of street carnival plan to carry out mayhem; as such, the Command is using this forum to inform the general public that streets carnival will not be tolerated in whatever form or guise.
“Therefore, all organizers of carnivals are enjoined to hire halls or use gated compounds to carry out/celebrate their festival.
“Parents/guardians are equally warned to advise their children/wards to desist from any act that could jeopardize the peace of this season.
“The residents of the state are advised to go about their legitimate business and celebrate peacefully, the command also warned that anyone caught or found wanting would be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
